The #Occupy movement wants a change of paradigm

Capitalism doesn’t have to fail. We have a society built on fiat money and we are in a crisis. WTF. We are in a crisis of invisibile money.

Costs 30B / year to end world hunger and we spend what 800B on wars?

The change of paradigme refers to a society in which the needs of the people are met first. According to Maslow, those would be: food, shelter, belonging, esteem and self-actualization.

Imagine if we wouldn’t have 4 billion people struggling for food and another 3 billion for shelter. Imagine if we would have made sure all these people would focus on their passions with minimum time spent on making sure the community has all it needs.

Imagine that world man, 6 billion people pursuing their passions. Imagine the art, the medicine, the science and the progress.

Sure those people would need other people’s help. But hey. The progress would be unimaginable.

Ultimatley #Occupy does not need the power to be the change it wants to be in the world. But I guess we are too afraid atm to take matters into literally our own hands, without any goverment. Just a mass action movement.

That time will come.

Facebooking making the same mistakes I did with CyberDunk

I’ve just read they will add more buttons to each story. Timeline crap, new ticker.. Their effort is to keep you on their site as much as possibile, and that’s bad why:

  • You are there to stalk women
  • You are there to see the news
  • You are there to meet new pretty ladies
  • You are there find funny and useful links

We need to make the lolbook, this right there is what users want.

We need to make the lolbook, this right there is what users want

You are not there to inform content creators of their content value (3431 Reads, 210 Likes, Hmmm very accurate – wtf). Facebook worked well because it was used for all the other sites, now it is trying to replace all the other sites.

Basically their mistake is adding lots of new features, instead of making everything easy and quick like it used to be.

I am not saying they wont be succesful, their 750,000,000 user count is a great motivator to stay on. However, their new user retention will decrease, their site will become crowded and confusing. Under this conditions google plus will gain market share.

Regardless, the social crowd will go wherever the pretty ladies go. So keep them happy, men are only there for their pics.. right and “networking” and wrestling status updates (?).

Transfering Very Large MySql Databases From A Server To Another (Direct Mysql Dump Into Said Server)

In an attempt to improve the infrastructure of CyberSports, recently I have been doing lots of database transfers. The said databases have sizes between 300MB and the largest, CyberDunk, 150 GB.

In this article I will explain how I did it, (read learned via trial & error, like everything else). In the past, I had the help of a friend of mine, but seeing he is now in jail (not related :) ), I have to do it myself.

Apparently a faster way would be to solicit the hoster a cd burn or an external harddrive with the database. But let’s be honest, Hostgator and Softlayer are not gonna help with that.

mm, transfering all that CyberDunk goodness nomnomnom

Here’s one of the fastest ways to transfer databases between servers when you don’t have hardware access nor deep linux know-how (like I don’t), but you do have SSH access.

By comparison with the mysqldump into file and then move and then import, this is 6-7 times faster. Dump directly into the new server >:D

METHOD HERE

1. Get putty.exe, type in your server ip or hostname.
2. Login with your root account, or whatever account has the permissions we need.
3. If you know the database’s exact name you can root into mysql (everything after “//” double dashes is a comment that will not be written into the command line):

# mysql -u root // type this in the command line black command line
# show databases;
# use omnem_database_i_think_it_is;
# show tables; //and repeat this "use database, show tables" cycle until you find it, then:
# exit;

4. Once you know the database’s name, type:

mysqldump -u [username] -p [password] [databasename] > [root@server_destination_ip] [destination_database_name]

In our particular case (if you don’t have a root pw skip the “-p password” argument):

mysqldump -u root forum_talkdep > root@74.53.26.34 new_talkdep

Now, sometimes I am in a situation where I have a 30 GB storage table that is not 100% needed for the running of the game. In order to keep the lowest downtime possible. What I do is I ask mysqldump to ignore that table, and I return after it later. That way I save 30GB (which is about 12hours) of transfer time. I do that as follows:

mysqldump -u root -p mySEXYpassword forum_talkdep > find_me_sir_talkdep.sql --ignore table forum_talkdep.big_ass_table

If you want mysql to ignore two huge tables this time, do this:

mysqldump -u root -p mySEXYpassword forum_talkdep > find_me_sir_talkdep.sql --ignore table forum_talkdep.big_ass_table --ignore table forum_talkdep.big_ass_table2

This will take forever. The only way to monitor the progress. Log in to the new root server, go to the mysql database directory. Type:

ls -la

And it will you show you the size of the table or of the tables you have moved. They need to match the ones on the original server *if same versions*.

What I did was move individual tables. And disabled parts of my site. That way i was able to keep downtime to a bare minimum and could have kept it a lot shorter if i really tried my hardest.

Helpful links:

Where I found this method.
Import/Exporting a database link (first google result when searching how to import/export
Dumping into a file and then moving is faster if you have physical access to the destination server or the severs have slow network between them.

9/11 – 10 Years Later and 1M Iraqi and Afghan Casualties, Our beautiful Kill Count

But who cares, really ? Iraqis don't have internet. So they may be fiction.

I will let the quotes and numbers speak.

From http://www.unknownnews.org/casualties.html

Iraqi civilians killed [15] 864,531
Iraqi civilians seriously injured [16] 1,556,156

Afghan civilians killed [3] 8,813
Afghan civilians seriously injured [4] 15,863

From http://www.projectcensored.org/top-stories/articles/1-over-one-million-iraqi-deaths-caused-by-us-occupation/

Title: “Iraq death toll rivals Rwanda genocide, Cambodian killing fields”
Author: Joshua Holland

Iraqis had been killed every month by US forces since the beginning of the occupation. However, the rate of fatalities in 2006 was twice as high as the overall average, meaning that the American average in 2006 was well over 10,000 per month, or over 300 Iraqis every day.

Over 2.4 million vacated their homes for safer areas within Iraq, up to 1.5 million were living in Syria, and over 1 million refugees were inhabiting Jordan, Iran, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, and Gulf States.

Don’t worry Bro, we coming for Syria, on behalf of the european people – the Romanian soldiers and our allies will not rest until every Iraqi who had a hand in 9/11 (yes, that means all iraqis, that means you) will be incarnated in a new realm, i.e. dead. [end sarcasm]

By early 2008, the best estimate, based on extrapolations and replications of the Lancet study, was that 1.2 million Iraqis had died as a consequence of the war. This figure has not, to my knowledge, been reported in any mass media outlet in the United States.

Looking to join the army in order to satisfy your killing needs ? Here’s the standard murder procedure.

Each patrol invades an average of thirty Iraqi homes a day, with the mission to interrogate, arrest, or kill suspects. In this context, any fighting age man is not just a suspect, but a potentially lethal adversary. Our soldiers are told not to take any chances (see Story #9).

So where does the US stand in the last 50 years ?

Killcount Ranking

  • 1. Stallin – 20,000,000
  • 2. Hitler – 8,000,000
  • 3. Us Americans, Europeans and Romanians – 1,000,000
  • You know what ? Bet we can crack the top2 within years ! Let’s go, go !

Oh wait. I don’t support this war. Nor most of Romania, nor most of Europe, nor most of America. Ah.. that’s right, there’s that veto guy, Obama, who supports it. Hey, I am sure he`ll pull out, like a gentleman that he is. I think its to late though.. Iraq is already “pregnant”.

Facebook games versus Browser Based MMORPGs

FB Games are sexy, but do they have a soul !?

I have been playing browser based games since they made browsers. Started with Outwar, then KingsOfChaos then Tenadia, then I made my own: CyberDunk. The great thing about browser based games is the community side.

I have met my ex-business partner Talad in Tenadia. We were both lornies (a clan). This aspect is not seen in most mainstream facebook games nowadays. Most succesful facebook games I’ve seen are more of a cutsie economic build up rather than a friends + strategy game.

The day those flash games will be more like old fashioned browser based games like Travian, Kings Of Chaos, Outwar, Tenadia, CyberDunk.. that will be a great day for gamers !

Until then… us men we`ll still play the old fashion ones (+enjoy the cutsie graphics on the side every now and then in fb with that cute girl that needs free gifts ;) ).

Being A Christian ? Why the bad rep ?

When has it that being a christian has become a bad thing or a “stay-away” issue.

    Intelectual ferocity ftw.

In my experience traumas are handled better by Christians than atheists. Also, in my experiences most Christians, are not religious nuts nor citing psalms every quarter second, or ever for that matter.

    Something to think about,

    Materliasim Inception versus Deliverance

Inception, Birthday: The creature (man) would create and give its objects from his own identity. Know yourself, by creating.

Deliverance, Today: The creature (man) consumes whatever comes out of the assembly line. The creature feels better about himself in accordance with the percieved value of the objects he owns. Buy expensive shit, you are superb.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT OM !

The assembly line has to be both the best and the worst discovery in history.

The assembly line could have ensured that everyone has food and shelter so we can focus on other shit, but no. It was used in order for people to have the opportunity to work and get cool objects..

Imagine a world where food and shelter comes for free. What would you do then, how would you run your life ?

    Would you paint ?
    Would you sculpture ?
    Would you play basketball ?
Would you travel all the time ?
    Would you study ?
Or you would watch tv 24/7 ?

I can understand the argument that “adversity makes men and prosperity makes monsters”, and that should food and shelter be free nobody would work. The question is .. work for what ? Getting food and shelter ? There’s studies that have shown that when people are not stressed by deadlines and putting food on the table, or when creating what they want they are more productive.

Empires are born on illegal sh*t ? Is YouTube ok ?

I am just thinking whether the creators of youtube have thought for a quarter second that their site will be used to traffic copyrighted movies, songs, videos and everything in between.

I am watching you watching me Google.

I mean seriously most people thinking of creating youtube would have thought:

“IS THIS LEGAL? NAPSTER GOT OWNED HOW LONG DO I HAVE”

But not google -i know they bought it for 1.2B-, and here’s the catch this is not innovation, this what in legal terms we call “abuse of dominant market position”. It’s when a monopoly does sh*t regular entreprenours can’t.

And if YouTube is running with all the trafficking of copyrighted items going on there, why is thepiratebay under several lawsuits and its creators hiding in “uncivilized” -they do have freedom- ASIA.

    Don’t be evil.

    Right.
